SUMMARY:Brownstone Midwest Supper Club\, November 3\, 2025: Indiana University Professor Colin Elliott
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILNovember 3\, 6:30PM – 9:30PM \nWe are pleased to announce the next meeting of the Brownstone Midwest Supper Club on Monday\, November 3\, featuring Indiana University Professor Colin Elliott. \n“After Charlie Kirk: Ancient Rome’s Lessons on Political Violence and the Death of Republics”\nThe assassination of Charlie Kirk was shocking not only because a man was killed for his political and religious beliefs\, but because of the troubling revelation that many Americans believe such murders as justified and even worthy of celebration. Can anything be done to prevent the United States from entering a dark new period in which open factional violence becomes normalized? The ancient Roman Republic final phase offers stunning insights into how such embedded violence could play out. After the murder of political activist Tiberius Gracchus in 133 BC\, some in Rome—including many senators—endorsed the killing. Despite opportunities to restore political stability\, Rome’s elites failed to act\, and in the decades that followed\, cycles of violence grew increasingly frequent and intense. This chaos gave rise to dictators\, warlords\, and civil wars\, ultimately leading to the permanent collapse of the Roman Republic. \nAbout Professor Elliott:\nColin Elliott is a Professor of History at Indiana University\, Bloomington\, specializing in the Roman Empire’s economic\, social and environmental history. He authored Pox Romana: The Plague that Shook the Roman World (Princeton\, 2024) and Economic Theory and the Roman Monetary Economy (Cambridge\, 2020). His next book\, Tyrant & Gladiator: Commodus\, Last Emperor of the Pax Romana (Princeton University Press)\, is a biography of the Roman Emperor Commodus. Elliott is also host of The Pax Romana Podcast—a podcast exploring the exciting stories and sources from Roman history. He teaches several popular courses at Indiana University\, including ‘Ancient Leaders and Leadership’—a favorite of students of the Kelly School of Business. In 2020\, his teaching earned the David and Cheryl Morley Career Distinguished Teaching Award—the College’s highest teaching honor for early career faculty. \nVenue & Details\nLennie’s is a beloved Bloomington institution known for its warm atmosphere\, exceptional cuisine\, and craft beer selection. For over 30 years\, Lennie’s has been bringing people together over delicious food and drink in a setting perfect for meaningful conversation. \nLocation & Parking\nLennie’s is located at 514 E. Kirkwood Ave in the heart of downtown Bloomington\, Indiana. Free parking is available after 5PM in the Indiana University Von Lee Parking Lot at the corner of Sixth and Dunn\, and in the Indiana University Parking Lot #402 at 4th and Dunn. There is also metered parking (metered until 9PM) available on streets surrounding Kirkwood Avenue (Kirkwood is closed to traffic through November). Several parking garages are within walking distance. \nTicket Information\n$50 per person includes a tasty buffet dinner and drinks. Space is limited so secure your spot now! \nAccommodations\nExcellent hotels within walking distance of Lennie’s: \n\nGrant Street Inn – A historic charming local inn\nGraduate Bloomington – A boutique hotel celebrating Indiana University’s heritage\n\nFor more information contact Joni McGary at jonimcgary@me.com. SUMMARY:Brownstone Supper Club\, West Hartford\, November 19\, 2025: Alex Sullivan
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILOn Wednesday\, November 19\, the famous West Hartford Supper Club is pleased to welcome Alex Sullivan\, author of She Didn’t Start the Fire: The True Story of One Mother’s Journey from Apolitical to Activist.  \nButterfly is the venue (the real Chinese stuff) with friends of the Brownstone Institute. Come early for cocktails and meet Brownstone Institute friends\, scholars\, writers\, and benefactors\, and celebrate victories and discuss challenges ahead. The food is wonderful and the discussion brilliant. Casual and fun\, even if some people come in fancier clothing. \nAlex Sullivan graduated from Duke University with a double major in Mathematics and Theater. She began her career on the commodities sales and trading desk at JPMorgan\, where navigating the shark-infested waters of Wall Street prepared her well for the challenges of the outside world. When the global pandemic struck in 2020\, Alex left her career on Wall Street to become a stay-at-home mother\, taking on a new kind of challenge: protecting children. Since then\, she has devoted herself to educating parents—especially women—on the importance of grassroots activism\, community engagement\, and prioritizing our children as the future of America. \nShe co-founded New Canaan Unplugged\, a parent-led initiative helping families cultivate a more mindful relationship with technology. Alex also serves as the Connecticut Chapter Lead of the Independent Women’s Network (IWN)\, which operates in Fairfield County as a hub for like-minded individuals pushing back against divisive ideologies in schools and local communities. SUMMARY:Brownstone Midwest Supper Club\, December 8\, 2025: Green Acres Village’s Ann Kreilkamp
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILDecember 8\, 6:30PM – 9:30PM\nWe are thrilled to announce the next meeting of the Brownstone Midwest Supper Club on Monday\, December 8\, featuring Green Acres Village’s Ann Kreilkamp.\n“Growing Communities from the Ground Up: Green Acres Village – A Template for the Transformation of Suburban America” \nAbout the talk:\nAnn Kreilkamp will share the remarkable journey of creating Green Acres Village\, a thriving community nestled in the heart of suburban Bloomington. Ann will walk us through how she conceived and built this unique neighborhood\, where three homes with gardens\, a shared compost area\, greenhouse\, chicken coop\, patio\, and community stage come together as a living laboratory for intentional\, regenerative living. \nAnn calls her approach “emergent design”—a philosophy of making decisions “one after another\, little by little\,” allowing each choice to organically reveal the next step. Ann’s story reveals how these small\, deliberate actions can create transformational change\, build real community and have profound impact not just in our homes and neighborhoods\, but in our individual lives and our relationship with the earth. \nCome ready for inspiration as we discover how tiny steps can bring about slow\, meaningful transformation for ourselves and the soil beneath our feet. \nAbout Ann\nAnn Kreilkamp\, PhD (philosophy\, Boston University\, 1972) made an unexpected turn at age 60\, moving to Bloomington in 2003 from a 20-foot diameter yurt in Jackson Hole\, Wyoming. Having lived both on the east and west coasts but never visited the midwest\, Ann saw Indiana as a “flyover state” and had no interest in living there. But when her late husband decided to attend law school at IU\, she joined him. \nThen\, after only one evening together\, he died of a heart attack while asleep\, leaving her alone in a strange town. \nAnn had to stay. Why? She didn’t know. All she knew was that her husband had left her with a house in an inheritance\, and the question became: how was she to utilize it? \nVenue & Details\nLennie’s is a beloved Bloomington institution known for its warm atmosphere\, exceptional cuisine\, and craft beer selection. For over 30 years\, Lennie’s has been bringing people together over delicious food and drink in a setting perfect for meaningful conversation. \nLocation & Parking\nLennie’s is located at 514 E. SUMMARY:Brownstone Supper Club\, West Hartford\, December 17\, 2025: L. Todd Wood\, Connecticut Centinal
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILOn Wednesday\, December 17\, 2025\, the beloved West Hartford Supper Club is pleased to welcome L. Todd Wood\, the CEO\, Publisher\, and Editor-in-Chief of CDM Media\, publisher of the Connecticut Centinal. Founded in 1806\, it is the state’s premier investigative newspaper. \nButterfly is the venue (the real Chinese stuff) with friends of Brownstone Institute. Come early for cocktails and meet Brownstone Institute friends\, scholars\, writers\, and benefactors\, and celebrate victories and discuss challenges ahead. The food is wonderful and the discussion brilliant. Casual and fun\, even if some people come in fancier clothing. \nTodd Wood has been through heck and back over five years of running an alternative media venue…and survived. The paper has been censored\, demonetized\, attacked\, banned\, and otherwise targeted at all levels. He will describe his travails through it all\, and how legacy media had become so absurdly one-sided and uncurious about everything that matters. \nHis media company today is competing with and often beating the well-funded competition\, and hence having a huge impact on the public mind – despite every attempt to crush it. \nSee you soon! \nNo Media

SUMMARY:Brownstone Chicago Supper Club\, January 20\, 2026: Jeanne Ives
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILJanuary 20\, 2026 @ 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM \n$50 \nWe’re thrilled to feature Jeanne Ives to our Chicago Supper Club! \nJeanne Ives will offer critical insights into IL SB 1560. This bill\, signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker on July 31\, 2025\, makes Illinois the first state to mandate universal mental health screenings for public school students in grades 3 through 12\, with the state providing “free” resources to districts for implementation.  She argues that the law is not only costly but also potentially dangerous\, as it could enable unwarranted government intrusion into children’s lives and undermine parental authority—echoing her long-standing emphasis on limited government and family autonomy. Her perspective highlights concerns about the bill’s implications for privacy\, the risk of misdiagnosis or over-medication in a youth mental health crisis\, and the broader trend of state intervention in education\, informed by her firsthand knowledge of how such policies are crafted and debated in Springfield. \nAbout Jeanne Ives\nJeanne Ives is known for her outspoken advocacy on issues related to fiscal responsibility\, education\, and family rights. Ives graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as an officer in the U.S. Army\, including a deployment during the Gulf War. After her military service\, she transitioned into the private sector before entering politics. She was elected as a Republican to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2012\, representing the 42nd District.  During her three terms in office (2013-2019)\, Ives gained a reputation as a principled conservative who often challenged establishment figures within her own party\, including then-Governor Bruce Rauner\, whom she narrowly lost to in the 2018 Republican gubernatorial primary.  Today\, Ives serves as the CEO of Breakthrough Ideas\, a conservative advocacy organization\, and hosts a weekly radio show on AM560 in Chicago\, where she discusses policy issues affecting Illinois families. \nVenue & Details \nBase Community Cafe\, 1200 W. 35th Street\, Chicago\, IL\nBase Community Café is nestled inside the Bridgeport Art Center – one of the city’s most vibrant cultural and event venues.  Chef Owner Paul Zavala creates bespoke seasonal cuisine with a chef’s eye and an artist’s heart.  All is served in a comfortable café with fantastic coffee! \nLocation and Parking \n\n1200 W. 35th Street\, Chicago\, IL 60609\nEnter on North Side off of Racine / 34th Place\nParking is available on the north side of the building.\n\n \nTicket Information\n$50 per person includes a family style dinner\, beer\, and wine.  Space is limited so secure your spot now! \nFor more information contact Jackie Sloan at Jackie@JackieSloanInc.com.  Please include “Supper Club” in the subject line. \nNo Media

Admission is $80 per person\, which includes dinner; drinks can be ordered for an extra charge. \nOur speaker will be Lucia Sinatra\, Co-founder of No College Mandates\, an internationally recognized organization that has courageously led the nationwide charge to restore individual medical autonomy in higher education. \nProgram DescriptionJoin us for an inspiring and essential discussion with Lucia Sinatra\, Co-founder of No College Mandates\, an internationally recognized organization that has courageously led the nationwide charge to restore individual medical autonomy in higher education. \nIn the spring of 2021\, over 1\,200 colleges and universities across the U.S. imposed sweeping COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Through countless hours of dedicated\, strategic advocacy and unyielding pressure from the grassroots movement\, zero general college COVID-19 vaccine mandates remain in effect today. \nThis accomplishment stands as a powerful testament to the organization’s effectiveness in defending the rights of students nationwide. However\, the fight for medical freedom is not over. The lingering requirements for students in health care programs and their affiliated clinical partner facilities still threaten program completion and future careers. \nLucia Sinatra will delve into the complexities of this final frontier\, discussing how a small group of concerned citizens formed No College Mandates and mobilized a nationwide response to institutional overreach and review the organization’s milestones\, including the specific strategies that successfully pressured hundreds of institutions to rescind their mandates. She will also explore the continued advocacy efforts focused on eliminating mandates for all healthcare professionals\, particularly in programs like nursing at University of San Francisco where clinical partners are still requiring proof of updated COVID-19 vaccines. \nNo College Mandates is the very definition of a successful grassroots movement—one built on principle\, persistence\, and community. The discussion will conclude with a practical guide for how you can translate passion into policy\, including essential steps for identifying a core issue\, building a diverse network of dedicated supporters\, and crafting a clear\, compelling message. \nAs the legendary anthropologist Margaret Mead once stated\, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful\, committed\, citizens can change the world. Indeed\, it is the only thing that ever has.” Join us to learn how to be one of those committed citizens who helps usher in and defend a new era of medical choice in higher education. \nBioLucia Sinatra is a retired corporate securities attorney. After becoming a mother\, Lucia turned her attention to fighting inequities in public schools in California for students with learning disabilities. She co-founded No College Mandates to end college and university Covid-19 vaccine mandates and to offer free public resources which have helped tens of thousands of students and families make the most informed decisions about continuing education.

SUMMARY:Brownstone Supper Club\, West Hartford\, February 18: Ann Bauer
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILOn Wednesday\, February 18\, 2025\, the beloved West Hartford Supper Club – the first in the nation – is pleased to welcome Ann Bauer\, bestselling author\, world-famous essayist\, once a beloved writer for the New York Times (forgive her please)\, and now one of the most compelling thinkers and critics of our time. \nAnn will not likely go down in history as the source who broke the Minnesota welfare fraud case but she probably should. Her deep knowledge of the state informed most of the reporting on that topic. She will likely share facts and analysis of the culture of the state never heard before\, along with some detail that has yet to make the news. \nAnn Bauer’s fame stems from her fierce independence of mind and stylistic elegance. Once a chronicler of New York City cuisine – the subject of her bestseller – she entered the class of dissidents in the Covid era\, drawing attention to the ways in which the population was being trolled by a class of scientists she knew all too well. This position alienated her from her social set but opened new opportunities. \nThe Supper Club is thrilled to have her! \nSee you soon!

Jim and Andrea Gale\, of Galts Landing Farm\, are hosting the event to kick things off\, with members of the board of Directors at Origins Reclaimed serving as additional speakers for the event. Speakers: Rob Younkins\, and Nicole C. Dinner and talks start after sunset at 6 pm\, followed by plenty of time for Q&A. \nGalt’s Landing: The Flagship Example \nRather than being the “headquarters” or a private estate\, Galt’s Landing serves as the Flagship Living Trust.  \n\n Jim Gale’s Role: Jim acts as a steward of this specific trust\, demonstrating the lifestyle and the systems (such as the food forests) that the Origins Reclaimed network aims to replicate globally. \n Galt’s Landing is an off-grid “freedom farm” and permaculture demonstration site located in St. Cloud\, Florida. The property serves as a living laboratory for self-sufficiency and regenerative agriculture. Its primary focus is on replacing traditional lawns with “food forests”—diverse\, edible ecosystems that require minimal maintenance and no pesticides. Limited lodging available on site\, contact for more details and to make a reservation. \n\nNote: Some lodging on-site is available through Airbnb in shipping container properties. Here is the link to inquire: https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/502678681 \nOrigins Reclaimed is the overarching mission to establish a decentralized network of Conservation/Community Land Trusts (CLTs) across the country. Its purpose is toward a model of stewardship that secures land for the public good\, regenerative agriculture\, and generational food security. \n\n The Blueprint: The organization provides the legal\, financial\, and social frameworks (the “instruction manual”) for others to establish their own land trusts and autonomous communities. \n Expansion: While the movement is starting in Florida\, the goal is a robust\, interconnected web of these communities nationwide\, all operating under similar principles of sovereignty and ecological restoration.
