SUMMARY:Brownstone Ashland Supper Club\, Sept. 23\, 2026: Margaret Anna Alice & Rob Schlapfer
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILBrownstone Ashland Supper Club \nWednesday\, September 23rd\, 5:30pm – 9:00pm \nVenue: The Ashland Hills Hotel\, Galaxy Room\, 2525 Ashland St. Ashland OR 97520 \n$50 per person for salad\, entree\, and dessert. Beer and wine available for purchase. \nOur Guest Speakers this month: Margaret Anna Alice & Rob Schlapfer.   \nWEAPONIZED EMPATHY: HOW PATHOLOGICAL ALTRUISM FUELS BAD DECISIONS. Sometimes helping people actually hurts them. That’s called pathological altruism—you want to do good\, but you wind up making things worse. Bad actors can make goodhearted people accept harmful solutions by tapping into their empathy. This becomes evident when you examine topics such as COVID\, the climate debate\, equity\, and other hot-button issues. Understanding both how our minds work and how they are readily manipulated is how we become unherdable. \nRob Schläpfer is a social science educator who’s spent over a decade conducting classes and community conversations to bridge Oregon’s deep political divide. A former pastor\, professor\, and publisher\, he’s taught critical thinking\, civics\, and cultural studies for over four decades. He created the Oregon Education Project to promote high-quality American Education. \nMargaret Anna Alice has been a popular blogger since early Covid time writes about global politics\, health\, psychology\, language\, human rights\, civil liberties\, philosophy\, history\, and culture as she counterbalances her exposure of dark topics such as propaganda\, tyranny\, and democide with empowering solutions aimed at helping people. Margaret is best-known for her viral poem Mistakes Were NOT Made with millions of shares and hits. \nThe Brownstone Institute has been helping start supper clubs like this around the country.  Several of us here in Ashland felt inspired to take on the task to rebuild real community\, have honest conversations\, and find our people again.  We meet each month in an elegant setting to enjoy getting to know each other. There will be a time for meet & greet\, followed by dinner and a speaker.  We invite you to join us in this new adventure.  \nVenue Location: \nAshland Hills Hotel \n855-482-8310\n2525 Ashland Street\nAshland\, Oregon 97520 \nThere is plenty of available parking on-site. \nRegistration: \n$50 per person.  Space is limited so be sure to secure your seat early.  For more information contact Bill at bkindman@mind.net.

SUMMARY:Brownstone Manhattan Supper Club\, Sept. 29\, 2026 : Miriam Eckenfels-Garcia
DESCRIPTION:SHARE | PRINT | EMAILBrownstone Manhattan/NYC Supper Club \nTuesday\, September 29\, 2026 | 5:30 – 9 pm \nCarmine’s | 2450 Broadway\, between 90th and 91st Streets in Manhattan \nSpeaker: Miriam Eckenfels-Garcia \nThe cost is $85 for the dinner\, not including drinks\, which can be purchased at the bar.  \nWe will meet at the bar from 5:30-6 p.m. and then go into the Bellini Room at 6 p.m. for the dinner.  \nSpeaker bio \nMiriam Eckenfels-Garcia is the Director of Children’s Health Defense’s (CHD) Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) & Wireless program. She leads a team of litigators and researchers focused on protecting children and the environment from the harms of wireless radiofrequency (RF) radiation. Miriam is an international lawyer with a background in corporate accountability and international human rights law. Throughout her career\, she has worked for various human rights organizations in Europe and the U.S.\, where she focused on mechanisms to hold corporate actors accountable for egregious violations of human rights. After seven years of running pro bono research projects and international fellowships for the Public Interest Law Center at NYU School of Law\, she joined CHD in 2021 to build and run its educational fellowship program and to fight against the unchecked expansion of wireless infrastructure – pushed by big telecom and special interests – that harms our health\, the environment\, and our privacy autonomy. \nProgram description \nThe Federal Cell Tower Takeover: Federal agencies and Congress are pushing major policy changes that will allow industry to place cell towers and antennas virtually anywhere in America — including near homes and schools\, on neighborhood playgrounds\, and in front of your church. All with no informed consent\, no safety oversight\, and an industry shielded from liability. And you and your town will have no say in the decision making. Learn about the negative impacts of cell towers on health and the environment and join a discussion about what you can do to stop unwanted towers in your community.
