Vanessa Pompeii-Britt\, Attorney Advocate. Health Action Massachusetts is a 501(c)(4) non-profit dedicated to protecting medical\, religious\, parental\, educational\, and disability rights through advocacy\, policy and education. Their mission is to preserve individual rights\, and actively oppose legislation that threatens fundamental rights. \nAbout the Talk\nThis talk will cover several high-impact proposals such as eliminating the religious exemption for K–12 school attendance\, undermining parental rights in medical decision-making\, and creating new barriers to accessing education and healthcare. \nWhile the legislation is specific to Massachusetts\, the implications are national. These policy trends are surfacing across the country—and what happens here could influence how similar efforts unfold in other states. \nHear how both MA residents and out-of-state advocates can make an impact\, from amplifying the message on social media\, to contacting national organizations\, to preparing for potential large-scale actions should the legislation advance. \nVenue\nTremezzo is a friendly\, relaxed Italian eatery. In addition to being a fellow at the Brownstone Institute\, he is a visiting fellow at Purdue’s Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy. For 15 years\, Bret was a trustee and chairman of the Indiana Public Retirement System\, the state’s $50 billion pension fund. The food is wonderful and the discussion brilliant. Casual and fun\, even if some people come in fancier clothing. \nThis month we are deeply honored to host Jan Jekielek\, a curious and scrupulous journalist who has interviewed all the major players in a range of areas\, from public health and politics\, to immigration and economics\, to national security and media. On this journey\, he has made great friends and learned an enormous amount about how the world really works. \nJan will share with us insights on what it is like to be in his position as a voice of clarity with independent media\, and what he has learned over the last several years in his role. We are thrilled to hear from him and hear his story of his experiences and what it has taught him about this highly contentious moment in public life.
