At that time he assumed responsibility for running his father’s store\, RidgeCrest Herbals\, however\, Matt’s background was in business management and law – not the natural health products industry. \nBecause his mother was one of the unfortunate victims of the fen-phen weight loss drug that caused heart problems\, and shortened her life\, Matt found himself less trusting of traditional western medicine than he had previously been. He set about studying the pharmacology of botanical medicine – how various substances work\, how they interact\, and how to make those interactions beneficial instead of harmful. Now an accomplished herbalist\, Matt continues to promote natural methods for health and healing\, aiming to help people reduce their reliance on pharmaceuticals. \nMatt and his wife\, Carol\, have three daughters and several grandchildren. \nAbout the talk \nRecently returned from Geneva\, Switzerland where he attended the Codex Alimentarius Commission meeting\, Matt will explore the pros and cons of the Codex Alimentarius\, or “Food Code.” The CAC\, under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization\, and the World Health Organization\, is a collection of internationally recognized standards\, codes of practice\, guidelines\, and other recommendations  that relate to food\, food production\, food labeling\, and food safety.
