On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the beloved West Hartford Supper Club – the first in the nation – is pleased to welcome Thomas Harrington and celebrated his new book, Staying Human in a Soul-Shredding Age. It’s a marvelous reflection on the most foundational point of all: retaining our humanity in the face of myriad attacks from all sides.

We live in strange times. We have an avalanche of shots purporting to replace the immune system and the need for health at all, an army of robots coming for our skills, entertainment floods to shatter relationships, and and AI that proposes to replace thinking. Dr. Harrington’s book both sounds the alarm and shows the path of escape.

Butterfly is the venue (the real Chinese stuff) with friends of the Brownstone Institute. Come early for cocktails and meet Brownstone Institute friends, scholars, writers, and benefactors, and celebrate victories and discuss challenges ahead. Thomas Harrington’s intellect and voice have been central to Brownstone Institute’s mission and purpose from the beginning. Today he serves as head of our Spain branch of thinkers. His main field is languages, humanities, and history, which is given Brownstone’s content its broadness of purpose beyond science and public health.

His previous book chronicled the treason of the expert class. His new book is an inspired guide to seeing our way around and out of the traps presented to us by the culture planners on all sides. He has been a Supper Club regular and valued contributor to our network and conversations.
