The Age of Error: Net Zero, Expertise & the West’s Undoing - Rupert Darwall - TBS, Episode 37

In this episode of The Brownstone Show, Jeffrey Tucker interviews London-based author Rupert Darwall about his forthcoming Encounter Books title The Age of Error and the West’s Undoing — the third volume after The Age of Global Warming and Green Tyranny. Tucker recalls ice-age drills that became warming sermons, then “climate change”; a friendship that ended over a modest doubt; and how COVID made the expert-cartel thesis believable. Climatologists, he says, occupied the same throne epidemiologists held in 2020.

Darwall starts with Mary Douglas and Aaron Wildavsky: elites decide what counts as risk. Environmentalism borrowed civil-rights moral absolutism after Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring; power co-opted the movement and capitulated. The book’s clash is geopolitical. A planetary-catastrophe vision requires the whole world to act. China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and much of Africa will carbonize first. Subscribe to the green vision and you neither cool the planet nor keep the reflexes to treat a rival as a rival — you get a climate G-2 instead.

He dates the “age of error” after the 2006 St. Petersburg G8 energy-security principles, a document Western archives memory-holed. Japan has been the most climate-skeptical G7 nation since Kyoto. Politics led the science. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists ran dozens of climate pieces before COVID and few on lab-leak risk — including a 2012 paper putting a major leak-driven pandemic at roughly once every 12.8 years, most likely SARS. After the outbreak, Charles, Boris Johnson, and the Pope reached for nature and climate; the pandemic agreement names climate, not labs.

They turn to Fauci and Morens’s 2020 Cell paper on spillover and reconstructing society; EU net zero as a legal lock; Britain’s record residential electricity prices and first real fight over the 2008 Climate Change Act; and the cost of welding science to government — censorship, lost trust, and virologists protecting gain-of-function work rather than the public. Fauci left with a pardon. Tedros expects the U.S. back in the WHO.

Dangerous Misinformation: Ivermectin, Mandates & Doctor-Patient War - Mary Talley Bowden - TBS Ep 36

Jeffrey Tucker interviews Houston ENT Dr. Mary Talley Bowden, author of Dangerous Misinformation: The Virus, the Treatments, and the Lies.

Tucker frames COVID as a scandal that shattered the doctor-patient relationship: governments and hospitals prescribed one product, banned off-label care, and punished physicians who treated the sick. Bowden was a quiet solo specialist until Houston Methodist — the first hospital in the country to mandate COVID shots, on April 1, 2021, five months ahead of the Biden administration — suspended her privileges and told the world she was spreading “dangerous misinformation.” She learned of the suspension from a Houston Chronicle reporter. CNN and the Washington Post followed. After a weekend “in a fetal position,” she resigned, held a press conference, and sued.

The Methodist defamation fight ended badly on a technical error after her first lawyer had a stroke. She paid the hospital more than $166,000 in legal fees; they later chased interest after a post on X, then dropped it. A clearer win came with Drs. Paul Marik and Robert Apter against the FDA: the agency took down the viral “you are not a horse” tweet and related website claims after the Fifth Circuit held that the FDA may inform, not practice medicine. Off-label prescribing stayed legal; the smear did not. Bowden describes the fall 2021 pile-on — FDA tweet, federal mandate, medical boards — and her ongoing suit against multiple state boards and the Federation of State Medical Boards. Two physicians in that case lost their licenses.

She treated more than 6,000 COVID patients. Those who got early treatment, she says, survived. Hydroxychloroquine vanished from Texas pharmacies the day after Trump mentioned it. Monoclonal antibodies worked until they were pulled as mandates arrived. Ivermectin required an “underground railroad” of independent pharmacies; a 25,000-response poll found 52 percent sourcing the animal formulation from feed stores. Tucker recounts his own January 2022 prescription from Pierre Kory that no New England pharmacy would fill. They discuss why alternatives — natural immunity, early drugs, antibodies — had to disappear if the shot was to be the only path; why the Great Barrington Declaration provoked such fury; childhood COVID shots still recommended by the AAP in 26 states (three doses by nine months) despite ~10 percent uptake; informed consent when the patient is a child; and how an introvert became a public fighter because Methodist created the following it meant to crush.

Kill Switch: Viruses, Gain of Function & the Road to COVID - Dr. Richard Burt - TBS, Ep 35

In this episode of The Brownstone Show, Jeffrey Tucker interviews Dr. Richard K. Burt, recently retired Northwestern professor, Scripps faculty member, and pioneer of hematopoietic stem cell transplant for autoimmune diseases, about his book Kill Switch: The History of How Viruses Shaped Humanity and Led to COVID-19.

Dr. Burt wrote the book for lay readers — from smallpox through the molecular-biology revolution after 1960 — after a Chinese postdoc told him in late December 2019 or early January 2020 that Shi Zhengli’s bat-coronavirus website had been scrubbed overnight.

Burt pulled NIAID grants routed through EcoHealth Alliance to Wuhan, saw gain-of-function work that made non-pathogenic viruses infect humans, and in mid-to-late January 2020 briefed a major-network broadcaster. The reply was essentially “so what?” Vaccines, Burt argues, have been a genuine “kill switch” for pandemics and have saved hundreds of millions of lives. The problem is the new project: engineering pathogens that never existed on Earth without inserting a molecular suicide gene or other containment — technology Burt himself published decades ago — and without serious oversight. He walks through Fouchier’s 2012 H5N1 work, Fauci’s solo-authored 2012 paper claiming the benefits of such experiments outweigh the risk of a pandemic, the Baric–Shi receptor-binding-domain collaboration in Nature Medicine, and the later cover story that pointed away from a lab the NIH had funded.

The Bayh-Dole Act turning tax-funded university research into pharma licenses while schools keep charity tax status; unlimited PAC spending that can end a senator who challenges industry; FDA-permitted direct-to-consumer drug ads that underwrite corporate media on both the left and the right. Burt’s own MS transplant work — one-time, highly effective, no patent — is drowned out by infusion drugs that can bill tens or hundreds of thousands a year. He compares COVID-era messaging to Hearst–Pulitzer yellow journalism after the USS Maine, and insists the fix is not hunting one villain but tracing the financial currents that keep the same mistakes alive.

Cronyism and the Rise of the Corporatist State - Patrick Newman - The Brownstone Show, Episode 34
