Speaker bio
Natalya Murakhver is the co-founder and executive director of Restore Childhood, a nonprofit that makes documentary films and reports on childhood, education and free speech. Born in the former Soviet Union and raised in Brooklyn, she is the mother of two daughters. In 2021 she led a lawsuit against New York City to reopen public schools five days a week.
That fight became her first film, 15 DAYS: The Real Story of America’s Pandemic School Closures. It draws on three and a half years of work and nearly 60 interviews, including NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya and Dr. Scott Atlas. It is streaming on all major platforms. Her second film, Uncancellable, follows former public defender Maud Maron through her 2025 run for Manhattan District Attorney. Natalya made it as a Palladium Pictures Incubator Fellow.
Natalya writes the Restore Childhood Substack and hosts its podcast. She covers education, teachers’ unions, free speech and the culture young people grow up in. Recent posts follow parents who pushed back on classroom Chromebooks and the quiet loss of the best children’s history books. Her op-eds have run in the New York Post and The Blaze.
Program: Accountability After the Pandemic School Closures, and Why Free Speech Comes First
More than six years after America closed its schools and masked its children, no one has answered for the harm. Natalya Murakhver asks what real accountability for school closures and mandates should look like now. She also makes the case that free speech is the most important right Americans have. She argues that we keep this right only by using it, and by using it wisely. We will view a segment of her film during the dinner.
