Joel Salatin

On Wednesday, November 11, the Charlotte Brownstone Supper Club is pleased to welcome Joel Salatin, the “Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer,” regenerative agriculture pioneer, author, and proprietor of Polyface Farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley.

We’re also excited to host this gathering at a new venue: Noble Smoke, Charlotte’s beloved heartfelt Southern barbecue spot on Freedom Drive. Known for its wood-smoked meats and generous sides, Noble Smoke partners with innovative local and regional farms, to deliver quality, flavorful barbecue. We’ll be meeting in The Honeymonk Hall, a private event space situated between the main restaurant and the outdoor beer garden.

About the Talk

FOOD EMANCIPATION

America’s food system is held captive to a plethora of prejudicial regulations that lock small farmers and culinary entrepreneurs out of the market. Offering subsidies, organic transition money, and additional government programs never create more food choice, better nutrition, or entry options for new entrants. The way to solve the oligarchy, agency capture, junk food, and aging-out farmers is liberty and freedom to allow two consenting adults exercising freedom of choice to engage in a food transaction without asking a bureaucrat’s permission. We have choice in the bedroom, choice in the bathroom, and choice in girls’ sports, but we don’t have choice in the kitchen.

Come early and meet Brownstone Institute friends, scholars, writers, and benefactors. Celebrate victories and discuss challenges ahead. The venue is excellent, the food is outstanding, and the discussion will be lively.

About the Speaker

Joel F. Salatin is an American farmer, lecturer, and author who raises livestock on his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Meat and other products from the farm are sold primarily through direct marketing to consumers and restaurants. Featured in Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma and the documentary Food, Inc., Salatin is widely recognized as a leading voice for regenerative, pasture-based agriculture and food freedom. He is the author of numerous books (including the forthcoming Food Emancipation) and a frequent contributor to the Brownstone Institute. He advocates for dismantling regulatory barriers that prevent consenting adults from freely buying and selling food, arguing that liberty—not more subsidies or programs—is the path to better nutrition, more choice, and a new generation of farmers and food entrepreneurs.
