Brownstone Midwest Supper Club, January 12, 2025: James Bopp, Jr.

Please join us for an evening of warm community, lively conversation and great food and drink! This month we are pleased to welcome James Bopp, Jr., distinguished constitutional law attorney and Indiana University Trustee.
About the Talk
Mr. Bopp will talk about “The Importance of the First Amendment to America and Higher Education”.
About James Bopp, Jr.
James Bopp Jr. is Principal Attorney with The Bopp Law Firm, PC in Terre Haute, Indiana, one of the most prominent First Amendment practices in the nation. The National Law Journal named Bopp among The 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America in 2013, and the Journal of Law identified him as one of The Top Supreme Court Advocates of the Twenty-First Century in 2012.
Attorney Bopp has litigated over 190 campaign finance cases in more than 45 states. Of his 14 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court decided on the merits, he has won nine, including Citizens United v. FEC. He notably represented a group of Indiana University students in a federal lawsuit challenging the university’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate in 2021. The students argued the mandate violated their constitutional rights to bodily autonomy and their right to consent to medical treatment. In June 2025, he was appointed by Governor Braun to serve as an IU Trustee.
A 1970 IU graduate with degrees in history and political science, Bopp earned his J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law. He has taught at the Kelley School of Business and lectured at both the Maurer and McKinney Schools of Law.
