Brownstone Supper Club, West Hartford, April 22: Walter Kirn

On Wednesday, April 21, 2026, the beloved West Hartford Supper Club – the first in the nation – is pleased to welcome Walter Kirn, one of this country’s most respected and adored literary figures. Author of many books, including Up in the Air, which was turned into a major film, Kirn is founder/editor of County Highway, a Brownstone Fellow, and the script writer to a new film on disease panic.
Butterfly is the venue (the real Chinese stuff) with friends of the Brownstone Institute. Come early for cocktails and meet Brownstone Institute friends, scholars, writers, and benefactors, and celebrate victories and discuss challenges ahead. The food is wonderful and the discussion brilliant. Casual and fun, even if some people come in fancier clothing.
Walter Kirn is among the most incisive political, cultural, and literary critics in public life today. In the tradition of Mark Twain and H.L Mencken, he has the broad imagination to think outside prevailing opinion boxes and find the underlying themes. A graduate of Princeton, he wrote about his educational experiences before turning to fiction and nonprofit, with books including Thumbsucker and Blood Will Out.
Kirn has been given no parameters for this private talk, which is all the better, so let’s arrive waiting to be surprised. This is your chance to meet a legend. Brownstone’s West Hartford Supper Club is thrilled to welcome him.
