On January 22, 2024, amendments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations (21 CFR 50) covering Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) were finalized and implemented. The amendments added a new section 50.22 that allows for exceptions to informed consent requirements for minimal risk research.

This Covid vaccine is being gradually added to every list of requirements that is available, from immigration to the childhood schedule to school attendance. It sure seems like the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, for an undisclosed reason, was privileged over the J&J product by regulators, such that even more than 1,000 deaths in three months were not considered a “novel safety concern or risk requiring label changes.” Not to mention withdrawing the product from the market.
