Faroe Islands: The Tiny Country that Rejected Lockdowns

SHARE | PRINT | EMAIL

The Faroese authorities never fell prey to the irrational fear and scare tactics that unfortunately prevailed for the most part in the rest of the world. Instead, they showed the self-confidence, the respect for fact-based decision-making and consideration of the broader picture needed when confronted with an acute situation.

Colbert, Fauci, and the Externalization of Mental Illness

SHARE | PRINT | EMAIL

Life is hard. Everyone I know bears some burden or other. Most do so with equanimity and dignity, and without victimizing others. It’s been deeply wrong—and extremely selfish—for Colbert, Fauci and their groupies to have externalized their mental unwellness on hundreds of millions of others by insisting on society-wide, lastingly destructive Coronavirus interventions.

The Pandemic of Journalistic Malfeasance

SHARE | PRINT | EMAIL

Thanks to the Lockdown Files, we now have “definitive” proof that much of Covid policy was cruel and inhumane, made on the hoof, driven by dogma and self-interest, without the requisite evidence and sometimes even against scientific advice, to foment fear, avoid picking arguments with political opponents, promote personal and party agendas, etc. It failed to stop the spread of Covid but has inflicted substantial and lasting damage.

Vaclav Havel and the Semiotics of Public Masking

To reject the ideological schemes of “reality” imposed from above to instead embrace the most true and fundamental impulses of life is precisely what those wonderful pilots, nurses, teachers, policemen, lawyers parents and many others are doing right now before the tyranny of mask and vaccine mandates.

CNN Loves Weathervane Pandemic Pundits

Weathervanes have no historical perspective of medicine. They are among the first to call for censorship because they are incapable of rebuttal. I doubt many of them even listened to the Joe Rogan episodes they want to suppress. Among those who listened, I doubt many can accurately summarize what was right, wrong and what remains gray.

The Covid Disaster was Foreshadowed with Love Canal

Those at the highest risk from Covid were given a piece of cloth to wear over their faces, while those at very little risk from the virus itself saw their future prospects decimated because of overly broad restrictions.  Both groups were told that $.05 masks were the difference between life and death, despite a lack of scientific consensus at any juncture.  Both groups were told that questioning any of this was tantamount to terrorism; that embracing one-size-fits-none restrictions held the only path forward.

The Speakeasy Churches of 2020

They were meeting; I did not have to wear a mask. They even had Bible study on Wednesday nights, where I could sit with others, all unmasked, and listen to talk of Biblical stories and themes that had sustained people for centuries – stories of mercy and perseverance, of holding onto hope in terrible times, when such hope seemed impossible; stories of miracles arriving through the darkness.

Coronamania Foreshadowed in Beatlemania

SHARE | PRINT | EMAIL

Witnessing Beatlemania foreshadowed Coronamania. While the manner of expression of group identity and hysteria differed in these two contexts, both reactions were extreme and unreasonable. Actually, Beatlemania made more sense. When I walked out of the theater and back into the disorienting 1965 late-day light, life immediately returned to normal.

Will You Be Convicted of Spreading Misinformation?

Australia’s new Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023 seeks to impose a wide-ranging set of new obligations, very loosely defined, that will constitute offences if not complied with. The obligations fall on digital services providers, who must either comply with a yet-to-be-registered code, or comply with a code that ACMA will determine.

Tell the Truth No Matter What

SHARE | PRINT | EMAIL

The remnant of Western Civilization ultimately has a truth problem. On one side we have the fairy tale of happy pluralism that there is nothing substantive worth debating regarding the philosophical underpinnings of society. On the other side, there is the persistent temptation to either flirt with or fully embrace authoritarianism as a shortcut to suppress the conflict that is necessary to really arrive at truth.
